Here are the choices you have: shock collars, citronella collars, and ultrasonic collars.

Shock Collars

These dog training devices shock your dogs into submission.  They are not made to hurt your dog but they do give them a clear message.

Every time your dog barks with one of these things on he or she will get shocked.  The bark has to be more than three times and over a certain level for it to kick in.  This type of anti bark collar is by far the most popular.

They work very quickly, usually within a day, but many dog owners find this type of anti bark collar inhumane.

Citronella Collar

Dog’s hate citronella spray.  It is a substance that is also used to repel mosquitoes and quite  non-toxic.

Nevertheless, dogs cannot stand the smell and are annoyed to death by it.

There is just something about it that bothers their sensitive noses and when they get sprayed by this anti bark collar the barking ceases immediately.

A citronella bark collar is worn around a dog’s neck and once they get over a certain tone it shoots a quick burst of this spray (very little amount) into their face.

Ultrasonic Collar

A dog’s hearing is more advanced than a human.  He or she can hear sounds we could never hear.  This anti bark collar works off that premise.

It starts to emit a high pitched sound when your dog starts to bark.  Like the citronella dog’s find this very annoying.  Their acute sense of hearing just cannot take it.

They will shut up immediately. You will not be able to hear any sound but they will.  You can by this as a collar or as a stand alone device.  Many people feel that the ultrasonic bark collar is the most humane training tool out of the three.

First, you need to make sure the collar is snug.  Fitting this barking collar the right way is crucial if you want to have any success.  You do not want the collar to be too tight, obviously, because you do not want to choke your dog.  Even though you are trying to train your dog through a form of punishment you do love your pet and want him or her to be comfortable throughout the day.

Having said that if the bark collar is not tight enough its sensor will not be able to  detect your dog’s voice or vibrations and it will be useless.

Second, if you have a dog that has thick hair or a lot of hair you need to have him or her.  Hair is a another barrier to the sensor. Pugs have light hair so the anti bark collar worked great on mine.

I had a lasso dog (very boring breeds I might add, he got dumped on my by my last girlfriend/ fiance) who had a lot of hair and it almost never worked.  I had it on him for a whole week and the device never sensed his bark.

If you have a breed that has thick hair bring it to a groomer and get his or her hair cut as low as possible.

Third, you need to make sure the batteries are good.  I cannot tell you how many times people I have know, or myself, have used an anti bark collar and the batteries were dead.  The battery on the collar is small and the power runs out quick.  They usually have a light so you know if it is good or not.

On my Petsafe shock collar it would have two blinking lights as long as the battery worked.  When they were in fact dead a red light would come on.  Kind I handy I think.  Obviously, if there is no power going to the collar it is not going to work very well.  Its one of those items that should be really self explanatory but we all forget from time to time.

Follow these three items and your anti bark collar should work the way its designed.  To shut your dog up in the middle of the day!

 You would not believe how many times I have heard this argument.  It seems that at times every dog lover is after me whenever I even begin a conversation talking about training your pet with dog shock collars. I try to post information on various pet forums about using these devices safety and effectively and all I ever get is grief and disbelief that I could resort to such cruel methods.

A person stated on the last forum that I posted on that my pug would start to hate me from using the this form of behavior training on him.I am not mad at all.  To be quite honest no person can ever prove if anti bark collars are inhumane or not because its all a matter of point of view and perception.

I used this form of dog training on my pug, who I love dearly, and he still loves me today.  He still sleeps in my bed every night.  I still jumps up on my lap when I am watching a movie.

The only thing he does not do is bark at every little thing he sees outside.

And our relationship has never been better.My pug is a stubborn little dog, as cute as he is, and I had to put the no barking collar on him for two and a half full weeks.

A first I tried to use this device sparingly and was inconsistent in use.  He would learn not to bark and within days on not having the collar forget and go right back to his old tricks.

So finally I just left it on him for basically three weeks.  Even when I thought he was over his excessive barking I put it on him.

Listen, I am well aware that dogs bark.  That is not my issue.  Its their job.What I cannot stand it out of control, excessive barking at everything they see.  Some dogs are smart enough to distinguish a threat from a non threat.

Others cannot.  You can go through weeks of dog training and accomplish nothing minus spending a couple hounded.

Or, like I did, you can invest in a bark collar to stop dog barking and get some real peace of mind. The things will not hurt your dog.  They will cause and unpleasant sensation, yes, but do harm to your dog, no.

You have some liberals out there who will complain about anything.  They will have to take three Tylenol a day because their pooch is giving them a headache when the solution to their problem is at their nearest pet store.

Its not like the dog has to wear the collar forever.  If you use it correctly than you will only need it several weeks.

These collars come in several sizes so you want to make certain you get one for your dog’s type.

You can also adjust the setting on these things from low impact all the way to high impact. To be clear I would like to mention that the anti bark collar is only meant to go off after three to four loud barks.  Anything less and it does not deliver the shock.

Try these things on yourself.  You will see that the shock looks worse than what it really is.  The sensation they feel is actually more mental than it is physical.

I would like to assure you they are not.  The shock produced by these collars are really not meant to hurt the dog.  The shock is meant to create a small unpleasant sensation that tells them to stop doing whatever they are doing.

I was fairly leery myself of the whole “shock collar” device until I got a pug two years ago.  He is the cutest dog you have ever seen but he will bark non-stop at any and everything.  A school bus, kids, the mailman, other dogs, you name it he barks at it.  It was enough to make your nerves rattle at times.  I had to find some way to address this problem.

I went to the nearby pet store, Petco, and bought an anti bark collar for approximately $100 after some fierce negotiating with the store manager.  They had an ad on their website for one price yet when I went into the store they had another price.  The difference was $30 so I got them to take that off.  Anyway I bought it and put it on my dog that very day.  No keep in mind that most bark collars have several levels of correction so you can choose how strong the shock will be.  Even the top level will not hurt your dog but for small dogs likes mine I keep it at medium.

I have to admit that I did feel bad at first but wow did the training go fast.  With the collar one my dog stopped the constant barking within several hours and stopped most random barking within 2 days.

The bark collar does not just zap the dog whenever he barks.  He has to bark loud and more than three times for it to go off.  So after a while if he barked it was only two times and then he abruptly stopped.  Dogs learn quickly!

My pug is pretty good about barking now.  I do not mind the occasional bark he and there or to alert us that someone is at the door but the out of control inappropriate barking is pretty rare now.

How does these devices work?  They are basically designed to produce a “shocking effect” when your dog barks more than several times and reaches a certain noise level.  These collars will not shock your dog after every little bark and will not shock your dog if he/she barks but in control.  The design is meant to give your dog a mild shock, and I want to put emphasis on “mild” to everyone who may thing that this technology is inhumane, when they start to bark really loud and totally out of control.

The premise of the shock is to give your dog a negative reaction to the action he/ she is currently taking.  Animals have a very short memory and all to often when they do something wrong the punishment is too late giving the dog or the owner very little lasting benefit.

This type of discipline is immediate and quite frankly not pleasant at all for dogs.  They will learn, and I might add very quickly, to control themselves.  It really only takes one day for them to get the message.  They might be depressed or confused as to whats going on the first day but they will quickly make the adjustment.

Anti bark collars will give you very fast results but for these results to be long lasting you are going to need to continue to use it for several weeks.  Some dogs learn quickly and some are really stubborn so the time needed to fully train your dog will vary.  If your dog has a thick coat of hair you also may have to shave him/ her.

When used correctly you can really get some peace in your home.  Most people who own dogs love them but having a dog in residential areas and cities where there is a lot of activity can be challenging.  The dog is loved but not what can be the incessant barking. Anti barking collars are a must have if you fall into this category.  Highly recommended you obtain one and use it.

Anti Bark Collar

I promise you anti bark collars really do work.  They work better than most people even realize.  If you have a dog that yaps and barks a lot then an anti bark collar is absolutely necessary.  And I am not talking about dogs that casually bark.  That is normal.  I am talking about dogs that bark at any and everything.  A person passes your house and they bark.  Kids get off the bus and they bark.  People come to your house and they bark.  It can become overwhelming.

I have read and seen many ways to stop dogs from excessively barking and the collar works best.  An anti bark collar will start having an effect on your dog immediately, if used correctly.  I did another test the other day.  My aunt has a small dog that yaps at everything.  Cutest dog in the world, without a doubt, but barks nonstop somethings.  I let her borrow my anti bark collar.  We put it on him last Sunday.

At first I thought that it wasn’t working because we rang the doorbell and he started to bark and the collar did not work.  I had forgot, which you should remember too, that those anti bark collar don’t immediately go into action as soon as you put them on your dog.  They scan the dog’s bark first.  It will take several barks for it to go into effect.  Once it did my aunt’s dog got zapped a few times.  He learned very quickly that barking at everything was not going to fly anymore.  Her dog, like most, was pretty depressed for a while.  He went and hid in his doghouse for a little while.  But they get over it quick and adjust.

There is nothing inhumane about anti bark collars.  The shock is not made to hurt your dog.  Its more of an uncomfortable feeling.  Just enough so that they know something is up.  It does not hurt them.  But dogs get the message quickly.  One thing that a lot of dogs do after wearing the anti bark collar is adjust their bark and tone.

Most anti bark collars are made to shock the dog after three barks and they have to be somewhat loud to trigger it.  So many dogs will bark two times and then stop.  This is fine.  I have no problem at all with dogs barking just not over and over again without let up.  Its not fun.  Ever tried to do work at your house and your dog starts barking out of control.  Its really annoying.

I also want to remind everyone who uses an anti bark collar to take the collar off at night before everyone goes to bed and when you are playing with your dog.  You do not want your dog to never bark just not at everything that moves.  And if you leave the collar on your dog at night he or she may get a rash.  Just remember to put the anti bark collar on your dog in the morning when you wake up.  You would not believe how many people forget this.  They never do it consistently as I stated in another post about forgeting to put the anti bark dog collar on. It will not work if you do it like that.  You are going to be wasting your time.  Everyday you need to put the collar on as soon as you wake up.  Do it for one to two weeks and you will not need the collar any longer.  Your dog will be quiet as a pindrop.

The anti bark collar that I has bought for my pug worked great.  He was always “yapping” away whenever someone passed by.  It was ridiculous.  I could not stand one more day of it and I had to find a way to stop my dog from barking.  So I bought an anti bark collar.  He was shocked in the first hour.  And the hour after that.  I felt sorry for him but it was working.  If you have a pug you definitely need an anti bark collar.  It will start to work immediately.  You can go to previous article on how to put your anti bark collar on your dog if you need directions.

What I do not get is why most people have not got one.  Some feel that it is inhumane but I can’t understand that.  How else are your dogs going to learn.  That’s like saying you are not going to get treatment for a problem you have because its inhumane.  Well then you are always stuck with the problem.  It may hurt at first but then you are cured.  Have you been rang the doorbell to a friends house and immediately you hear barking dogs screaming from the top of their lungs.  Not a pleasant sound.

With an anti bark collar that eliminated.  You can stop your dogs from barking in just a couple days.  And you will not have to pay for obedience school.  That can be expensive. I highly reccomend that you think about.  I have seen 6 people get an anti bark collar for their dog and their dog stopped barking.  You can go to ebay and get a cheap anti bark collar or amazon or anyplace online.  Buying an anti bark collar online is as easy as sipping a cup of hot kona coffee.  Putting the collar on your dog is easy and then you do not have to worry about it again.

I thought she had a terrier at first but it was not.  It was some type of french dog and I can’t pronounce the name.  The dog really is cute.  But the constant yapping makes me want to put a muzzle on that dog.  I wanted to kill it.  And I like dogs.  I just did not understand how he would quiet down, be okay, he came up to me, sat by me on the couch, and then a couple moments later he was barking again.

This dog needs an anti bark collar.  I told her to get it.  I do not care if she buys it at Petsafe or Mill and Feed but she needs to get one and quick.  I called my friend because I knew he had two collars that are not really being used.  I mean he bough two collars at $100 each and maybe used them three times.  I tried to see if she would sell her one of his for half price but he was hesitant stating “he may use it in the future”.  We’ll see about that.

I told her to go to the pet store and buy one immediately.  I told her that the price tag on the no bark collar is going to be at least $130 but that if she calls the manager over and negotiates with him or her she can get it for $100.  Hell, the economy is bad so she should be able to get it for $80 but that may be pushing it.

Anyway, if you have a dog that barks at everything you need this gadget.  It really teaches them to behave.  They will certainly get the message quick after a few harmless yet attention getting shocks that they will not be able to bark at everything.  That is just no going to work anymore.

I hate to say it but if you have a small dog you should definitely get one.  They work better than big dogs because they have less mass.

When you have family or friends coming over there is nothing worse than an out of control barking dog.  You cannot talk over them and they can make visits very unpleasant.  Do yourself a favor and get a bark collar.  My anti bark collar was one of the best investments I ever got for my dogs.  You need to do the same thing.

The word I am looking for is consistency.

If you do not have it then its not going to work and you are going to be wasting your time and I would recommend that you don’t even buy a anti bark collar.  The reason why I am saying this is because I talked one of my best friends into buying a collar and he is doing just this.

Its pissing me off to no end.  I go over his house everyday and for days I wont see his dog with it on and then it will be on and then it wont.  How in the hell do you think you are going to accomplish anything?  Why in the hell did we go to the pet store when it was -20 degrees outside spend 30 minutes looks for the thing buy it and he not use it right.  Its worthless.

The first day he put the collar on it was working fine.  No problem whatsoever.  His dog barked and it shocked him.  I mean it really got him.  He barked again and it shocked him.  These things work great on pugs, I’m telling you, just great.  If you have a pug then you really want to think about buying an anti bark collar for your pug but YOU HAVE TO BE CONSISTENT.  Don’t put it on your dog and leave it off the next day.  You have to put it on your dog and leave it there for a week.  Its tough love.

I hear questions all the time “do anti bark collars really work” and I say yes the absolutely do.  But you have to know how to use them.  You cannot put the zap collar on your dog and then feel sorry for your dog and take it off then get tired of him barking again and put it back on.  It doesn’t work like that.  You are just going to waste your money.

The dog also learns as time goes by.  The collar will give your dog three beeps.  Three warnings.  After the third beep the collar shocks the dog.

But the problem is that after some time the dog figures it out and barks only twice.  So if the mailman is passing by the dog will give a “bark, bark” and then stop.  This is what my friends dog has learned.  Give any animal time and they will learn how to survive.  Like us.  Like humans adapt so do animals.  Your dog will get used to the warning beeps on the collar.

Don’t go asking for your money back if it does not work.  It does.  Anti bark collars work great.  I promise you that.  I have put these on several dogs and LEFT IT THERE and I have no complaints.  I left it on them for one weeks.  One solid week is all you need.  The gadget will solve you barking problems.  Barking dogs upset the neighbors, your friends even though they will not tell you, and family.

In many places they are passing ordinances giving out fines to owners of barking dogs who cannot keep them silent.  You would be wise to heed the counsel.  Put the zero bark collar on your dog and leave it there.  I hope I have said that enough.

Woodstock

The no bark collar is a great gadget for getting your cute but yipping pug to stop barking.

So I put the PetSafe anti bark collar on Woodstock as I had said in the previous article .  He was so happy.  I sort of felt bad at first.  He thought, and still does I might add, that it was his usual dog collar that I put on him to go for a walk.  He was excited.

As it turned out a kid got off the school bus not three minutes later.  His attention was immediately diverted.  He started barking at the kid walking home.  The anti bark collar is set to give three little beeps.  Its almost like a warning.  Note:  dogs get smart using this.  The next no bark collar I get I want to be able to change the settings because believe it or not dogs adjust by only barking two times before getting shocked. Woodstock got buzzed.  And he got buzzed good.  He let out a yelp.  I couldn’t help but laugh.  He was perplexed.  “How could this be happening,” he thought.

He got shocked all day.  But he learned real fast.  After several hours and someone passed you could see him wanting to bark but knowing the consequences and holding back.  The dog collar had worked better than expected.  It took one day.  Because Pugs have very short hair so the anti bark gadget works great on them.  They really feel the effect and learn quick.

Remember though you are supposed to take the thing off at night.  The problem with me is that I forget to put it back on and all it takes without consistent use is several days and the dogs are barking again.
